2004 Zinfandel

This wine possesses intense aromas of black cherry, rhubarb, leather and black and white pepper. The varietal true black cherry flavors on the palate give way to dark plum, blackberry, clove spice and cocoa. The extended barrel aging and cellar time has transformed this hearty and robust Medium- to full-bodied wine into an something that is incredibly elegant and silky.  The tannin structure is refined and adequate making for a very well balanced wine.

Accolades:

  • Double Gold-Best of Appellation (Appellation America)
“It was indeed, and earned a Double Gold.  We not only loved it, but found it dead nuts on the money for the region.  It was actually kind of amazing, as the panel remarked on.”
Sonoma Valley: Aroma Deep, multi-dimensional. Fresh cherry, nectarine and bramble, tea leaves, oak spice. Flavor- Lush and feminine with solid, unobtrusive tannins, generous fruit and warm cocoa.
  • Gold-Sommelier Challenge

2006 Syrah

In 2006, our Syrah grapes matured on the vine for longer than usual, leading to darker fruit aromas and flavors, more depth overall and great length on the finish. This vintage reminds me of Northern Rhône’s famous Côte-Rôtie, but with a brighter expression of fruit and terroir. This Syrah was assembled from hand-selected barrels of our favorite block at the top of the hill next to the winery which produces a big and robust Syrah with ample amounts blackberry and white pepper. Then, added to the blend is 6 barrels from the top of the North facing slope, which possesses characteristics of plum, smoke and red meat. The finished wine’s nose is full of blackberry and wood smoke aromas with hints of cocoa powder. The mouth is well-integrated with firm tannins and multiple layers of fruit, with plum and coffee notes. Once the cork is removed, and the wine breathes over the next the next 3 to 4 hours, the wine will evolve and unfold many layers of fruit and spice characteristics. This is typical for the 2006 vintage and southern Monterey County Syrahs in general. Enjoy this wine with ripe cheese and just about anything off the grill.
